Gwyneth Paltrow’s $90 T-shirt … and other celeb-designed items you can’t afford
By Lizbeth Scordo | A-Line: Celebrity Style – 18 hours agoGwyneth Paltrow (Wireimage)Last year, actress-turned-expert-on-all-nearly-everything, Gwyneth Paltrow, caught 100 BPA-free canteens worth of flack when she posted her recommendations for must-have spring wardrobe "key pieces" to her website Goop. The grand total for the mix of items, including jeans, jackets, some shoes and shirts? Close to $20,000, more than half of what the average American woman earns in a year. Gwyneth, with her showbiz career and rock-star husband who makes a decent living himself, can, of course, afford the stuff. The rest of us? Not so much. But this week the Oscar winner unveiled a little something of her own that actually costs less than $100. What is it? A white T-shirt. A $90 white T-shirt. Could the Paltrow piece possibly be worth it? It depends on your paycheck, of course, but given the fact you can pick up a cotton T-shirt just about anywhere for a fraction of the price, I'm guessing the answer is no. Check out details on Gwyneth's latest creation and a few other items celebs have recently designed — and subsequently hawked — for prices that defy common sense.
The $90 Goop tee (goop.com)
Celeb designer: Gwyneth Paltrow
Item: The Goop tee
Price: $90
Official Description (via goop.com): "We've collaborated with Kain Label, creators of the perfect tee, to create a version exclusive to goop. Inspired by tuxedo tailoring, we added grosgrain piping to the shoulders and sides, and shortened the length, modernizing this essential wardrobe staple."
What Gwyneth has to say: "We like to wear ours untucked." (Who's "we"?)
What's most outrageous besides the price: It's only offered in one size and "comfortably fits US sizes 0- 8." Really? That seems like a pretty big range and wouldn't it look completely different on a woman who's a size 0 versus someone who's a size 8? For $90, at least let us choose our own sizing.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (Wireimage)The $34,000 Row backpack (The Row)
Celeb designers: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

What Mary-Kate and Ashley have to say: Not muchOfficial description (via retailer Net-a-Porter.com): "Crafted in Italy using traditional techniques and specially sourced materials, The Row's black alligator backpack is a key style from the label's sought-after accessories collection. Transcend the seasons and carry it year-round with the canvas straps or short top handle, keeping the rest of your look pared-back to keep the focus on this covetable carryall."
What's most outrageous besides the price: These backpacks, released last year for The Row's fall collection, sold out. And, of course, the fact that alligators had to die to make the Olsen girls a few extra bucks isn't exactly a happy subject.

Victoria Beckham and the $125,000 Range Rover Evoque (WireImage)

Only 200 were produced and each includes "a hand stitched owner's manual with rose-gold detail is co-branded Range Rover Evoque Special Edition and signed by Victoria Beckham. It's your guide to the exclusive features of the car." Rose-gold seems to be a recurring theme for Posh, as there's also a rose-gold plated grill and rose-gold plated accents both inside the car and on the alloy wheels.
What Victoria has to say: "It's the small detail that makes all the difference. I want everyone who gets into this car to feel special and empowered by its quality and craftsmanship. I like that it feels luxurious but also has quite a classic edge to it as well as a contemporary feel."
What's most outrageous besides the price The possibility that someone might buy a $125,000 car based on the fact Victoria Beckham had something to do with it.
You could save $81,005 by buying: A regular old Range Rover Evoque, which starts at $43,995.
